More of the Story

Now that I've blabbed in third person about myself here is how it actually started.

Should we do the long story or short? Lets do the long, buckle up, put on your glasses, and grab a coffee.

About 10 years ago in my early 20's I was working as a manager and floor worker at a hand car wash for 3 years. It was a back breaking, sweaty, hard work. After 3 years of that I moved onto the deli counter. I worked at a deli counter for the next 2 years, making sandwiches, serving customers, and cooking. It was actually really fun and I'm grateful for that job because a year in is when I decided to go back to school. Working the deli counter during the day and at night I was in the city at lasalle college studying Technical Clothing Design. It was a hard, intense year of work and school but I made it to the end.

After graduating I moved onto a new job here in kahnawake as a production assistant at a local clothing brand. It was an amazing job where I learned more hands on skills with industrial sewing machines, production, and all the other things that come with a small business.

A year and a bit into that job covid hit, my job got put on hold for 6 months and suddenly I was at home with nothing to do. Luckily I had just bought my first industrial sewing machine a week before lock downs. I had all the time to finally experiment with all the things floating around in my head. For years I had an interest in bags, I loved always carrying a bag and when I was in school I expressed high interest in bag design. Although I didn't get to study bag design and construction at school I still had the knowledge of pattern drafting and sewing skills. I spent many weeks sewing bags at home, a lot of them never seen the light of day because of how horrible they turned out. Making bags was no easy feat that I quickly discovered. Alas I finally made a damn decent bag with my dog training treat bag. I'm still so proud of that design to this day and it has stayed true to its original design with small changes.

After that design I started taking orders here and there, along side with going back to work after lock downs. Within a few months I designed a few more bags and was working full time in the evenings fulfilling orders. It didn't take long that I had to leave my day job and pursue this full time.

Fast forward 5 years and we are here baby! Full blown bomb website, sick ass bags, and a full size garage studio.

It hasnt always been all fun, these past few years have been rocky as hell, life threw me some curve balls. I dodged and kept this business going when it was tough! If you stayed to the end, cheers you have listened to the words of a mad woman stuck at her sewing machines all day. All sew and no play makes Kelsey a dull girl.

In all seriousness niawen/thank you to everyone who has been here for the ride. I cant wait to see where this goes.
